In 2015 Zion was dubbed “Britain’s greenest mother” by The Daily Telegraph and “an eco-pragmatist, happily heavy on science” by The Guardian. She wrote the evidence-based book The Ultimate Guide to Green Parenting when she realised that ‘environmental’ parenting books heavily promoted pseudoscience (and were largely anti-vaccination). A review of The Ultimate Guide by Gurgle magazine reads: "Zion Lights has turned the cliched hippy dippy image of green mama mantras on its head and instead rammed her brilliant book with heaps of common sense and evidence-based facts".
In 2018, as a spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, Zion refused to defend false claims made by the group live on The Andrew Neil Show. As a member of the XR Media and Messaging team, she founded and edited The Hourglass, the first climate reporting newspaper in Britain. Hourglass attained a print run of 180,000 copies that were distributed across the UK by a network of volunteers.
Zion has always challenged the status quo in environmentalism, and she founded Emergency Reactor to create a space for environmentalists who support nuclear energy and human progress.
Zion has an MSc in Science Communication from The University of the West of England (UWE).
